I love helping women get in shape and hit their fitness goals, but in my business, you find many excuses and complaints that women use that really shouldn’t be. It’s pretty crazy because many of them show that there are tons of women that have never felt what it’s like to be healthy. Let’s take a look at some of these excuses and why they are actually a good thing. Some of them have to do with women’s strength training while others are generic exercise complaints.

The Exercise is Burning My muscles

When I’m teaching somebody new to fitness, this is always something that is said. These women will stop working out and tell me their muscles burn. This is a great thing, when your muscles burn… it shows that you are breaking down your muscle mass which you need to do inorder to get results. If your muscles don’t burn then you know for a fact that you are not getting the workout intensity that you need to burn fat… it’s a clear signal.

There is No Time to Workout

This is the most famous exercise excuse. However, the key is you really have to sit down and rearrange your schedule… when you treat it like a puzzle, you will find that you can create more time than you need. You can then get other things in that you’ve been meaning to do.

 The possibility of muscle soreness after their workouts scares a lot of women.  It’s really strange but it’s the one pain that feels great.  It can make you feel very powerful and accomplished knowing you worked out hard.   The soreness really just stays around while your body gets used to the idea of working out, then the pain will decrease as you workout more.

 If you have this attitude, maybe you’ve never really known what it’s like to be completely healthy.   And maybe that means you feel like no matter how hard you work, you can’t lose the body fat.  But the truth is that you can see great results, you just have to follow a plan and a workout program designed with your goals in mind.

Are you a pro at procrastination?

Good business coaching can save you time and money.  As we all learned in school, procrastination is the thief of time. This tendency to put  jobs off until some time in the future , to avoid doing  jobs that really ought to  be done is a more common disease than the flu.

And yet, how productive and rewarding our lives could be if we conquered this mental malady. How much less  stress would we carry if we did not allow ourselves to be emotionally and mentally weighed down  with unfinished tasks hanging over us.

There are various reasons for procrastinating from negative self talk, “I can’t do this right ,” to being unclear about the task or not seeing the relevance of the task, to finding the task boring – especially true with repetitive tasks, to poor time management.

 Regsardless of the excuse or reason, procrastination is a mental thing and with the right motivation we can learn to rise to the occasion “mentally,” and get it done. Boring and repetitive tasks are often the most difficult to find motivation for.

In the corporate world, procrastination is one of the biggest profit drains.  With procrastinators, the coffee pot, the water fountain, the smoking – they all arrest inertia. And yet, just creating movement is quite often all that is needed to change the inertia.  Motion encourages more motion. 

Procrastination isn’t just something that afflicts employees, it also affects business owners – especially when things aren’t going well.  To fix procrastination in the workplace, the  perfect place to start  is with the owner or manager of the business.   It’s a bit of a rude ask to get your team to stop procrastinating if you do it yourself all the time. .

How to combine exercises and gain efficiency

We have little time for ourselves in the fast pace of modern life.  Quite often, we place exercise low on our list of priorities.  While Fitness Trainers in St. Louis don’t generally like to hear the excuse- “I don’t have enough time”, it can become quite difficult to give yourself this time.  The demands of life can be extreme, but wellness should be positioned high on the list.  If you don’t have your health, everything else becomes petty.

For the extremely busy sector, there are some faster paced, more time effective methods to ensure plenty amounts of exercise.  I encourage my personal trainers in St Louis to educate their clientele to use a “combination-style” program.  One exercise can have a combination of two or three body parts with a combination exercise.  You are able to utilize every major muscle group, get a quick workout, and be out of the gym with this method.  If you are searching for efficiency, this may be the best path for you.  You should be able to condense a normal hour and a half workout into forty-five minutes and end up getting more out of it.  

Also, the functionality of these movements in very high.  Your body works as a complete unit with multiple body part and muscle groups, making it vital to include some exercises with this same concept in mind.  Since most combination exercises are so functional, it is imperitive to keep proper form.  They are at a higher risk for injury because of the abundance of movement.  

Combination exercises are great for moving blood around the body to the various working muscles.  With these commonly fast paced movements, it is feasable to perform two or three movements in one-third of the time of three seperate movements.  As with every other resistance training program, it remains important to keep a balanced program from upper to lower body and from side to side. The same muscle groups should not be trained on adjacent days and every body part should be addressed two to three times per week.

Although hard to define without seeing them, here is a list of combination exercises:

- Push up/Dumbbell row combo

- Deadlift/Dumbbell row combo

- Lunge/Dumbbell shoulder press combo

- Push up/Pike pull in with physio ball

- Back extension/Dumbell row combo

- Burpee/Pushup combo
