The Colloidal Silver Controversy

August 21, 2010 by author · Leave a Comment

Colloidal Silver might just be a wonderful thing and here’s why: Prokaryotic, a.k.a bacterial cells and viruses cannot live in it’s presence. That means that whether you have a cold caused by a virus or a bacterial infection, colloidal silver could be used to fight the infection.

Think about it, if anything is caused by bacteria or viruses, it could certainly be influenced by the use of colloidal silver. It can also act as a topical treatment to prevent cuts or burns from becoming infected.

Silver probably cannot do much to make your teeth whiter however. Consider kardashian teeth whitening for that.

Colloidal silver will deactivate a prokaryotic pathogen’s ability to use oxygen, thereby suffocating the pathogen to death. Germs are not able to mutate to beat silver – at least not so far. So the super strains of ‘killer’ bacteria that have shown up in recent times are not able to defeat silver.

Colloidal Silver is somewhat controversial. It seems to be generally agreed that Colloidal Silver is an effective topical antibacterial agent. Long term internal use may have side affects, such as turning the skin blue. There is also the question of heavy metal toxicity.

You may not be able to get mileage out of silver for fighting bad breath, but therabreath oral rinse may be helpful.

You might find it interesting to recognize that there isn’t much argument about short term use. It seems to me that you could use it like an antibiotic for two weeks at a time when necessary. Of course, I’m not a doctor and you shouldn’t attempt to self treat. If you have a health condition, go see your doctor.

So, how come doctors don’t use colloidal silver in their practices? Interesting question, that one.

All I can do is point out that colloidal silver is available without a prescription at your local health food store.

The author of “The Body Electric” did some research on silver and he found it to be a great treatment for burns, that it did not upset the intestinal environment the way that convention antibiotics do and he saw it as an eliminator of pathogens.

Pathogens are those pesky bacteria and viruses that seem to cause so much trouble. Silver is used in the treatment of burns today.

For fighting gum disease, you may want to try the hydrofloss after checking with your dentist.

This may be important: There are some out there that claim the colloidal silver available on the market today is not in a high enough concentrations to be effective. Some recommend 500 PPM solutions.

PPM stands for Parts Per Million. You can find 500 PPM solutions in health stores occasionally. There is not enough research out there to say for sure that you need 500 PPM. But it doesn’t seem that unreasonable either.

Many brands that you find in store are only Fifty or even 5 PPM.

Colloidal silver is available without a prescription, which could be telling about why there isn’t more research being done on it. It’s just not profitable for the people who do the most medical research to investigate it.

The money for them is in researching and creating new drugs. In other words, there is no way to corner the market on colloidal silver.

You would be right to lament the fact that not enough research has been done, to tell us more about this incredible option.

And it’s not that research has never been done. There is a large body of research that supports the use of it, however, it has never become mainstream knowledge

Again, some doctors and scientists are concerned about toxicity levels with colloidal silver. If you have any questions about it, it might be a good idea to consult with your physician. See what she says about it.

Important note: Though many people use or have used colloidal silver without ill effects, including myself, there are some who have suffered terribly by the use of silver nitrate sprayed into the nasal passages. They have turned blue permanently due to the amount of silver that permeated the skin. Even though colloidal silver and the silver nitrate that used to be sprayed into the nose are not the same, you should do your research carefully before deciding to use colloidal silver.

EFT Tapping Therapy is Creating Controversy

August 17, 2010 by author · Leave a Comment

EFT tapping therapy is  by far  one of the most talked about  alternative health topics  currently  in vogue .   While most  people in America  and Canada have never heard of  it, word about this controversial  approach to wellness  is spreading like wildfire  . And it’s leading to  heated ddiscussion  wherever it goes, without exception. In fact, the initial  response  most people have when they hear about tapping for healing  and find out  what it consists of  is to be incredulous  respond with extreme skepticism  . ” Yeah, right!  ” is a common response . Believe it or not that is  one of the less outrageous  negative replies  – we can’t print a lot of them because this article is meant to be suitable for the whole family. Suffice it to say that many people are at first skeptical about EFT tapping therapy.

And that’sonly  the the man on the street  – the response from medical professionals and authorities is even more skeptical They attack   EFT tapping therapy  in the strongest language possible  , calling it a hoax  . Most of them state that not only is it a scam that doesn’t work, there’s no way it could work according to modern medical science. According to these self proclaimed experts , any positive benefits of  EFT therapy  are simply due to wishful thinking, false correlation, and the placebo effect, helped along by the desire of many people to believe in miracle cures.

However  this is  but  one side of the controversy . Yes, there is a vociferous  negative response to Emotional Freedom Technique out there, but there are hundreds of thousands of people who swear by the therapy. Most of them were skeptical and laughed about it when they first found out about the process  . But many of them had a mind open enough to different  ideas to give it a try. And now they’re convinced  . (There doesn’t seem to be much neutral ground – people either hate Emotional Freedom Technique or love it.)   People from all over the world, and all walks of life are raving about it.  And no one should write these people off until they’ve tried EFT tapping therapy for themselves.

Do Carbs Make Us Fat or Do Carbs Help Burn Fat?

May 1, 2010 by author · Leave a Comment

Ah, the carb controversy. It rages on after all these years and seems so persistent despite all the information to the contrary. I’ll answer now and settle the score.

Yes carbs will make you fat. All you carbo-phobes are right. However, And yes, you need carbs to burn fat (fat only burns in the presence of carbohydrates).

Let’s start with the “make you fat” part. If you eat too many carbs at one time, your body will use some of them for energy – this is good. But it will store the extra as fat – this is bad. Thus the emergence of the ever-popular Atkins diet and all the carb-avoidance behavior that is so common today.

However, when you want to lose weight – not just burn muscle or lose water but actually have healthy weight loss, you must have carbohydrates present in your system in order for the fat molecule to break down and be eliminated.

As you can see, the simple answer is to land in the middle – you need carbs at EVERY MEAL for both steady energy AND for weight loss.

The first step is to get past the very typical two-word diet mentality. No fats – no sugar – no carbs. The best approach is really SOME of each of the three primary energy-yielding nutrients (proteins, carbs, and fats) every time you eat.

I’m a nutritionist (and I’m frequently on national TV talking about health and nutrition) and I recommend 4 meals per day with the right balance of nutrients at every meal.

Of course there are a few more details than that – all of which I cover in tremendous detail in each of my nutrition plans. But this is a good place to start.
