An orthodontist is a specialized dentist who has completed 2 or 3 years in an accredited orthodontic specialty program, after finishing the mandatory dental school. The doctor could have earned a Certificate or even earned a Master’s degree in orthodontics.
  • A good way to find out if the dentist is an orthodontic specialist is through the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO). Dentists would normally display their affiliation and membership with AAO in their credentials.
  • Qualified orthodontists could be found at the website of American Board of Orthodontics (ABO). Many orthodontists pursue a board certification to have their clinical knowledge and experience assessed by this Board.
  • If you have a trusted friend or neighbor who has had a positive experience with a Chesapeake VA Orthodontist you could seek a recommendation. Of course, the best information is provided by someone who is currently undergoing treatment from an orthodontist. • When looking for an orthodontist for making braces, you also have to keep in mind that the process could be painful for some patients. This does not necessarily make the doctor rough or uncaring.
  • Your family dentist could also be an excellent source for information on orthodontists.
  • A dental insurance company may also provide referrals to their existing clients. While it is true that the quality of the orthodontist recommended by them may not always be trusted, but the companies have a rigorous process for empanelling the relevant doctors in different specialties. This may eliminate some poor doctors from their panel.
  • Before you finally choose your orthodontist, check out his years of practice in the profession. When he has a well-established practice, it means that he has a commendable list of satisfied patients.
  • Make sure that the orthodontist you choose is knowledgeable about the latest trends and techniques in his specialized field.

Invisalign to fix your smile

September 7, 2010 by author · Leave a Comment

Correcting a faulty smile doesn’t have to hurt. To find an alternative method of moving teeth without using metallic braces, Align Technology has come up with an innovative solution called Invisalign. This technology is based on the principle of using custom made aligners that are periodically changed or altered to cause minor tooth movements to the teeth. The patient will wear approximately 18- 30 sets of trays, for approximately 10- 15 months. Each aligner is usually worn for 2 weeks. Invisalign, in Plano TX, has revolutionized the way orthodontics and cosmetic dentistry is practiced around the world.

What are the advantages of Invisalign?

•Invisible. Invisalign aligners are made of clear plastic material that is transparent. You need not undergo the psychological stigma of being called a ’Metal-Mouth’ and hide away your smile. These aligners are a perfect option for those middle age people who have dreaded metallic braces but still want to improve their smile. There is increased self confidence in patients wearing this system. Even though tooth colored braces are currently available, they are costlier and not completely invisible.

•Ease of cleaning. One of the most common complaints of patients with fixed braces is their inability to clean their mouth properly after consuming food. The presence of braces with the hard to clean surfaces act as a magnet for plaque, so if your hygiene is not thorough, you will be inviting dental caries and gingivitis to your mouth. Metallic braces can also leave white spots, which are areas of the teeth that can develop demineralization, and consequently decay. If left untreated, this can compromise the procedure or stop it altogether. Plaque can accumulate in areas between the braces and gingiva causing gingivitis. Tooth movement can become complicated if gingivitis spreads to become periodontitis involving the supporting structures of the teeth. The plaque that develops with metallic braces will also cause a strong odor, common to metal brace patients.  Mckinney Invisalign braces are removable and can be removed during eating and brushing of teeth. Normal oral hygiene can be maintained during therapy. Most of the problems affecting patients with fixed braces with respect to hygiene can be avoided with Invisalign.

•Less discomfort. Another major complaint of braces is their tendency to cause ulcers and pain during treatment. Sharp edges and protruding wires can cause injury to gums and soft tissues and takes prolonged duration for the patient to adjust to the appliance. Since Invisalign uses aligners made of soft material, tendency to cause injury is greatly reduced.  Aligners exert less force compared to fixed braces. Therefore less pain and discomfort is experienced during treatment. Some studies have shown that Invisalign aligners take shorter duration of treatment time in certain cases.

So why wait? If you’ve always wanted to improve your smile, but don’t want the agony of fixed braces then Invisalign is the treatment for you. Check with your Orthodontics dentist in Fort Worth, TX for further information regarding this treatment.

How Does Cosmetic Dentistry Work?

There are lots of people that are unsatisfied with their appearance in the world today. For other people, their teeth might have been unappealing for their entire lives, while the rest may have aged and slowly become distasteful. For those reasons, many folk decide to take a look at cosmetic dentistry; which is considered a dental facelift, changing somebody’s appearance in order to look better and feel happier about themselves.

There are plenty of methods in cosmetic dentistry, from braces to porcelain veneers. More frequently, dentists use a combo of these methods to achieve the most satisfactory results. The 1st strategy commonly used in cosmetic dentistry is Porcelain Laminate Veneers (a. K. A veneers). These veneers are specifically made of porcelain wafers, can be placed over the teeth to boost their appearance. Veneers can correct unattractive grins by reversing the consequences of ageing, and lighten the teeth. There are two kinds of veneers:  transient and permanent. Veneers sometimes cost several thousand greenbacks, depending on the number of teeth that you want to get fixed.  Many motion picture stars preferred to use veneers today to have that perfect grin.

Teeth bleaching is another method used to change the look of your teeth. There are 2 kinds of teeth lightening:  in-office and at-home lightening. The in-office bleaching uses a high power light, together with 35 % hydrogen peroxide. The patient’s gums are defended, and the bleaching process takes roughly an hour; then the shade of the teeth will be 4 to 6 lighter than before. Wherein, the at-home systems uses between 10 to 20% carbamine peroxide. A tray is used to fit inside the patient’s mouth. The patient is told to put a sprinkle of the carbamine peroxide gel in the tray and wear it while sleeping. This process usually takes one to six weeks. Some people use a combination of in-office and at-home system, the result is, the teeth is about twelve to fifteen lighter than its old color.

There are three most preferred method used for fixing selected teeth are: tooth shaping, bonded-bridge, and resin or tooth colored fillings. Tooth shaping is when a dentist removes some of the enamel from a tooth, re-shaping it and making it more attractive. This is used for shortening long teeth, rounding off pointed teeth, or to just make a grin follow the contour of the bottom lip (which is more interesting). It costs only $25 to $75 per tooth.

The bonded-bridge procedure is used to replace missing teeth; it involves taking out a portion of a teeth on each side of the missing tooth and then a bonded-bridge will be fastened at the back of the teeth on both sides is made. There are resin-bonded bridges that don’t fall out easily, and there are metal bonded-bridges that are pretty expensive. Resin or tooth colored filling, is used to fill tiny cavities or a chipped front tooth. Resin is used rather than porcelain veneers because it is cheaper and can be easily done; but the downfall of this method is resin should be replaced frequently.

Gum-lifts and Braces are also some of the methods used in Cosmetic Dentistry. Gum-lifts remove gums to make the teeth appear longer and eliminate a gummy grin. Uneven gum lines can make the teeth look as if they are of different lengths.  This process is comparatively fast and pain-free. Braces are the last, and most typical, method used in cosmetic dentistry. Braces are placed on the teeth and can straighten crooked teeth, help fix over-bites, and often make a more interesting grin. Braces are very laborious and expensive but are a great choice for youngsters. Some adults do get braces also, but others choose quicker and less expensive strategies. Braces run from $3,500 to $4,500, and need multiple visits to the orthodontist.

Cosmetic dentists use many alternative procedures to improve their patients’ grins and overall confidence. Some cosmetic dentistry procedures can be terribly difficult but yield good results. Therefore, if someone is not satisfied with their smile and doesn’t know what to do, cosmetic dentistry could be the ideal option for them
